The Northern Bluegrass Committee (NBC) was created to fill the need of an organization to preserve and promote Bluegrass in Ontario. The Committee started out as a non-profit organization, and certainly still is, as everyone in the business knows that you do this for the love of music, not for the profit. Originators of the committee were Rena Arbuckle, Tom “Trip” Trepanier and Bill Bowman. These people eventually moved on, going their separate ways and Tony de Boer carried on at the helm of the NBC.
The NBC now also produces the Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards (CCBA) Program, which was originally presented by Pat & Jack Buttenham, who produced the Canadian Bluegrass Review magazine. The CCBA is presented at the prestigious Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville. The NBC also produces the festivals in River Valley – at the River Valley Bluegrass Park, which are now in their 32nd year. We are also involved in several other festivals throughout Ontario, either producing or involved with sound reproduction. The NBC also produces winter concert tours with major bands from the USA throughout the winter months in order to keep the Bluegrass spirit alive in Ontario during the dreary months. We love bluegrass and the great people involved in all aspects of the music!
